Chat

Chatting on a live stream, the chat rules a creator can set, pinned messages, the gift goal, and what moderation looks like.

Every live stream has a Live chat. On a computer it is on the right of the player; the arrow on its edge (Hide chat) folds it away. On a phone's full-screen live view, the chat floats over the lower part of the video and moves up with the keyboard.

Writing a message

Sign in, type in Send a message… and press Enter or the send button. Your name in the chat is your profile's display name — without one, a short form of your wallet address.

  • A message can be up to 500 characters.
  • You can send up to 10 messages a minute.
  • The creator's name has a Creator badge. Subscribers carry a subscriber badge, and everyone shows their level.
  • Gifts appear in the chat as they arrive, for example "sent Rose".

The chat is kept with the recording, so people watching the replay later see it too. See Replays.

Rules the creator can set

The creator and their moderators choose who can chat and how often. When a rule is on, a small chip in the chat's header says so.

ChipWhat it means for you
Followers onlyFollow the channel to write. The box says Followers only — follow the channel to chat.
Subscribers onlyOnly the channel's subscribers can write.
Slow · 30sSlow mode: one message every few seconds, up to every 2 minutes. The box counts down until you can send again.

The creator, admins and moderators can always write.

Pinned message and gift goal

At the top of the chat you may see:

  • A pinned message — a note the creator or a moderator pinned, such as the rules of a giveaway.
  • A gift goal — a bar with the goal's name that fills with the gifts the creator receives on this stream. When it is full it says Reached!

Moderation

A creator's chat rules apply to all of their streams.

  • Words the creator blocked are replaced with stars.
  • A message the creator or a moderator deletes disappears for everyone, and from the replay.
  • A timeout stops you writing for a while. The message tells you how many minutes are left.
  • A ban stops you writing in that creator's chat: you see "You can't chat on this channel."
